Through the
Mission House Clinic, clients have access to the "We Care Referral System" for
special medical needs. In addition, the
University of North
Florida School of
Nursing has
created and manages a program where our clients can receive 4 to 6 months of
free medicine
directly from drug manufacturers. Mission House interfaces with the
I.M.
Sulzbacher Center
for the Homeless,
City Rescue Mission,
Trinity Mission, and the
Salvation Army for emergency shelter and
other special services offered at their locations. In our Emergency Cold Night
Shelter Program, six Beaches churches provide space and volunteers to
staff an overnight shelter during the winter months. Each church serves on a
rotating basis for one or two nights of shelter.
Case
management works directly with
River Region and
Gateway
Community Services for substance abuse residential rehabilitation
programs. River Region provides AIDS/HIV testing, TB Testing and STD testing
regularly at Mission House. QUEST, the homeless outreach arm of the
Mental Health Resource Center, provides a case worker for mental health
services on
Thursday
mornings at Mission House to facilitate counseling, treatment and housing as
well as providing
additional
services at QUEST’s Washington Street office in Jacksonville. We also work with
Gateway Services and the Service Center at 4th & Main for short term
detox. Case workers from the
Veterans Administrations and from
Volunteers
of America hold office hours at Mission House weekly to help meet
the needs of homeless vets.
Alcoholics Anonymous holds a meeting every
Wednesday evening in Cay & Andre’s Dining Hall. In addition, we have access to
rehabilitation programs at Just For The Love of Jesus in Callahan and the
Circle of Love
Ministries in north Jacksonville. Mission House works with the
Beaches Ministerial
Association
to facilitate pastoral counseling as well
as interfacing with individual churches for special programs. In addition,
every Tuesday evening, a wonderful spiritual program of song and praise is held
in Cay & Andre’s Dining Hall for all who wish to attend. .
Mission House utilizes the programs and
services of numerous agencies throughout Duval County. Working with the
Beaches Emergency
Assistance Ministry (BEAM),
Catholic Charities,
Jewish Children and
Family Services and City Mental Health and Welfare, we can
assist homeless clients in transitioning into permanent housing. Case
management works with the Goodwill Job Options Coordinator at the
Beaches Job
Junction office to secure full-time employment for clients.
